Mai Mahiu SGR Station Unreachable

A week has lapsed since president Uhuru Kenyatta opened the Mai Mahiu Standard Gauge Railway Terminus.

The terminus had been deemed inaccessible due to the off color road linking Mai Mahiu and Narok Highway.

The ongoing rains have made the 12 kilometer murram road connecting the Mai Mahiu and Narok road impassable due to its atrocious condition.

The 120 kilometer Nairobi –Suswa railroad has also faced a lot of criticism as it is described as a railway to nowhere. Critics says that this is a failed project since it fails to connect to any significant urban centers within Nairobi.

The Government has been urged to rehabilitate the road by both commuters and residence so as to ease the cost of transport that has shot up.

Travellers from Mai Mahiu would have to incur a Ksh 70 matatu fare to Suswa then have an additional Ksh150 from Suswa to the SGR station when riding on a boda boda. This comes due to the fact that there are no public service vehicles that stop at the station.

Nakuru County Commissioner Erastus Mbui said that the Government will build special economic zones.

This zones will offer tax breaks and cheap power as a way of enticing cargo transport along the new railroad. The roads will soon be rehabilitated.
