ANC's Mudavadi, Wiper's Kalonzo and Ford-K's Wetangula threaten Legal action against ODM's Odinga over the political parties Fund

A fallout in the National Super Alliance (Nasa) is quickly getting out of hand.

On Saturday three affiliate parties threatened to take ODM to court over the Sh4 billion political parties’ windfall.

Musalia Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper movement and Mr Moses Wetang’ula’s Ford-Kenya, vowed to ensure that the monies are proportionately shared among the Nasa affiliates.

The billions, accrued from 2011 to 2016 after the Treasury failed to comply with the requirements of Section 24 (1) (a) of the Political Parties Act of 2011.

ODM party lead by Raila Odnga then took advantage of the foul and moved to court to compel National Treasury to award the party the whole sum.

The political parties law came into effect in 2011.

The law demands monies due to qualified political parties for the allocation, shall not be less than 0.3 percent of total revenue collected by the Treasury.

Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu, who administers the fund, told a parliamentary committee that although there exists an agreement in Nasa on the sharing of the fund, a framework on how the fund shall be shared is lacking.

It is a matter of wait and see if ANC, Wiper and Ford Kenya makes good their threat.
