NHIF RAGING SAGA

The parliamnetry committee on health-grilling process set to unravel the mystery behind the NHIF saga continued today with two cabinet miniters appearing before the committe. Whilist Public Services Minister Dalmas Otieno was brought to task to explain why he negotiated for a conterversial scheme for the civil servants, his counterpart and Medical Services Minister Professor Anyang Nyongo was at pain to take responsibility on the controveries dogging the NHIF which falls under his docket. Both the ministers declined to take responsibility of the saga.

Land has been a thorny issue in Kenya for decades, an issue that has inculcated into political squabble and ultimately culminating into clashes as has been experienced in the past that have left the country bleeding from violence. Lack of proper legislation on land has been the core to this problem but with the full enactment of three key bills, the land act 2012, the land commission act 2012 and the land registration act 2012, it is expected that problems emanating from land will be minimized according to the land development and governance institute.

Over 20 civic leaders drawn from the larger Bungoma county yesterday resolved to work hand in hand with the Orange Democratic Movement party-ODM with the aim of ensuring that its party leader prime minister Raila Odinga wins the race to state house in the forthcoming general elections. Led by former chairman for Bungoma county council Julius Bakasa, the councilors who were drawn from various political parties especifically; Ford-kenya, New Ford-kenya, PNU and NARC-kenya said they shared the same ideologies as Mr. Odinga’s and urged the rest of the country to support his bid. The party’s top brass also confirmed that they are ready to work together with any party ahead of the coming poll.

NYONG’O’ TOLD TO RESIGN

Rights activists have added their voice to the ongoing NHIF saga, rooting for the resignation of Medical services Minister Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o. They also expressed dissatisfaction with the caretaker committee saying that it should not be used as a tool to cover-up the corruption that has dogged the health scheme.

Internal Security PS Mutea Iringo has said that the government will not under any circumstance negotiate with illegal groups that are threatening the country’s tranquility. Iringo said that as the country prepares to hold the forthcoming general election; all unlawful factions will not be allowed to cause mayhem and that the government will deal with such groups decisively. The Permanent Secretary cautioned communities against driving out people from counties on grounds of tribal affiliations moreover calling upon the media to be steadfast in their reporting and avoid causing unnecessary anxiety. He was speaking while officially opening Matungulu District headquarters within Kangundo constituency in Machakos county.

363 MILLION SHILLINGS UNACCOUNTED FOR

A report by the National taxpayers association has revealed that over ksh.363 million in taxpayers’ funds were either misappropriated, wasted or remains unaccounted for in 34 constituencies and 3 local authorities. The report lists Peter Kenneth’s Gatanga constituency as the best performing with Linah Kilimo’s Marakwet East being the worst.
